An award-winning writer

Tuesday, 3rd December 2013

Viewers of my Twitter profile may have noticed I describe myself there as a 'reward-winning writer', but now I can officially change that to 'award-winning' as I have just heard that I have won the Scottish Book Trust's monthly 50 word fiction competition for November.

I posted this news on Facebook yesterday and have received 108 likes from my various chums and colleagues which, frankly, is far more than any other life event has ever received!*

I'm not sure quite how highly regarded (or competed for that matter) this competition is, but I'm thrilled to have been picked.

What's that? You want to read the story? Oh, very well then...

The Library

She smiled, 'Did you like it?'

'Couldn't put it down,' he grinned. He hated Hemingway but wanted to get closer to the librarian. He'd checked out five books that week and had received a final warning for reading at work.

'How about War and Peace next?'

His face fell, 'Okay...'

My prize is a £25 voucher for The Literary Gift Company, so I shall enjoy spending that shortly.

* - this was eventually beaten by the news that Cat and I had become engaged, but that's quite right!
